Business Builders:
Overhaul Your Newsletter
Okay, you all know the importance of having a newsletter to
get your message out to your consumer, but you should
periodically overhaul it to make sure you are maximizing
exposure. Here are some quick tips on things to look out
for.
Spamming Don't send your newsletter to people who
haven't subscribed. It makes them angry. If you want to send
a sample copy, that's okay, but make sure you label it as
such.
Ease of Subscription Make it easy for people to
subscribe and unsubscribe. This is an especially good thing
if your newsletter is forwarded to others. It's an easy way
to get new subscribers.
Lack of useful content The primary reason people
subscribe to newsletters is for information. Make sure that
the information you provide is targeted to the audience you
are trying to reach. It should also be on topics your
audience wants to read about.
Lack of personality
While content is important, presentation style is too! Write
in ways that shows your personality. If people like you,
they will continue to get your newsletter.

Self-Care: Setting Boundaries Between Work and Play
Technology is a wonderful
thing! Blackberries mean we can get our email anywhere.
Services like "gotomypc.com"
make it possible for us to work anywhere there is a
computer and internet connection. The downside is that
sometimes there is no end to work hours. It's important
to divide personal and work time. It makes us more
productive and guards against burn out.
So how do you do that? You can make a schedule with
yourself that you do not violate. Make certain time
periods sacred and use that time only for personal
pursuits. Refuse to take work home especially if you are
not being paid for those work hours. Limit yourself to
how much time you spend on the internet. Check email
from only one source. Save commuting time by training
and meeting by teleseminars or videoconferences.
Schedule vacation time and relax while there. Finally,
create an end of the work day ritual that signals that
work is done. It could be something as simple as sitting
and having a cup of tea or changing into other clothing.
When we take care of ourselves, we have more to give
our jobs and our families. This self-care cycles back to
us in all aspects of our lives.
